Due to ongoing expansion, we are seeking experienced meteorologists to join our friendly, dynamic forecast team. Job Description

The successful candidate(s) will work within our team of expert meteorologists at our headquarters in Buckinghamshire, analysing and interpreting cutting-edge forecast model data, together with observational, satellite and radar output. MetDesk’s forecast team work very closely with a large range of high-profile customers, including highway authorities and national rail networks, regularly engaging in conferences, verbal and written briefings, to ensure their efficient operations that may otherwise be impacted by severe weather. As a company operating in a number of fast-paced exciting markets, a proactive, professional and energetic approach is required, with a willingness to be involved in all aspects of the working environment.

Experience and skills required – trained/experienced forecasters

Essential criteria:

  • A degree in meteorology or associated science
  • At least 2 years recent experience as an operational forecaster in the UK or Europe
  • In-depth knowledge of UK and European synoptic meteorology, climatology and geography
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence when briefing customers and retaining knowledge of their requirements
  • Willingness for shift-based work
  • Understanding the importance of team work
  • UK citizen or valid UK work permit

Useful to have:

  • Experience of leading operational forecast shifts
  • Experience in research and development, with opportunities for a split meteorologist/research role.
  • Demonstrable experience of customer briefings and presentations
  • Experience of mentoring and supporting junior meteorologists
